Canary in a coal mine

We will attempt to look at this scenario from our location (Earth for most readers), back towards a potential oncoming event to see if there can be any possibility of foreseeing this as an actual future event, using nothing up our sleeve but current science.  Our canary in our coal mine will be gravity and magnetism.

 


About Gravity and Gravity waves

Here is the thing about gravity.  We don’t know what it is, what really causes it, how it actually works.  We know how to describe it and predict its behaviour (to a point) ever since Sir Isaac Newton had that apple fall on his head.  Einstein did not know either. but had some ideas.  General Relativity describes it as a distortion in space/time that tells us mass creates a deflection in the space/time continuum that warps it in such a way as to influence the motion of another mass. aka gravity.  But he still did not tell us HOW it does it.  Relativity predicts a lot of things and all of them so far have proven to be true, measurable, and matching original predictions.  All except  one.  The existence of gravity waves.   His predication was that if you move a massive object, at high speed, thru space/time it would propagate ‘waves’ of gravity.  No such wave has ever been seen let alone let us know its behaviour on astrological bodies nearby.  For our continued discussion, we will assume gravity waves exist.

Here is another thing about gravity.  It appears to work instantaneously across any distance, is the weakest of forces and is very, very weak over distance.  Yet it transcends space and time.  It is not like there are ‘gravitons’, some as yet unknown particles exchanged between two masses that bind them together using some sort of quantum tractor beam! (quantum gravity theory says there is, but no proof).  It is as if each bit of matter were PHYSICALLY connected to all other matter.  Think of it as a spring that is attached to a mass (like a ball or something) at both ends.   Only this spring works in reverse of a normal spring.  In a normal spring, the farther apart you pull them, the spring would pull  harder to bring them back.  The closer they got, the less the spring would pull.  Gravity is like that, only in reverse.  There is no ‘tractor beam’ of particles flowing between atoms pulling them towards one another.  This is my opinion (and others) and it is somewhat against most current models.

Now think of the Sun on one end of this spring and the Earth on the other.  We don’t go zipping right into the Sun like you would think because we are moving too fast in a direction AWAY from the Sun.  The two forces find equilibrium and this is called our orbit.  Earth trying to go one direction, Sun pulling us in another results in a circular path.   If the Sun were to instantly disappear, the Earth would in that exact instant shoot out into space!   However, from Earth itself, the Sun would still be there for 4 more minutes as though nothing had changed because it takes the light of the Sun that long to get here.  This scenario is acknowledged as true by all models, but it is couched in relativity saying that from our perspective it just seems that way, but in another relative point of view it happened at the speed of light.  Very strange, but the key point being that from where ever you are observing it from, gravity has infinite speed as it applies to you.

This is the Newtonian view as well, Einstein says otherwise, that gravity travels at the speed of light and the ‘proof’ is here. but their actual figure was 1.06 times the speed of light.  But they just ignore that.

Now, a gravity wave would be a disturbance in the ‘thing’ binding matter together in space/time.  For now we will call this the ‘spring’ but it is really space/time itself.  As a massive body is moving rapidly, say at relativistic speed, through space/time it would cause a wave in space/time (moving all the springs nearby) like a motorboat moving over a calm lake.

Here is a ‘related’ article (Physical Review Letters) about how newly formed black holes will emit gravity waves at special frequencies, so this is just another example:

Combining observations of X-ray flares with gravitational waves emitted by the neutron stars as they spiral together and merge could reveal the exact frequency at which the shattering occurs. This in turn could tell us more about neutron stars, such as the pressure in their interiors and whether they host strange quarks or other exotic stuff.
Temper your excitement, though. We haven’t actually detected a gravitational wave yet. Such a measurement will probably have to wait until at least 2015, when a powerful new gravitational-wave observatory called Advanced LIGO is scheduled to go into operation in the US.

These waves could travel at faster than light speed since gravity itself does as well, but would be limited in distance and probably return to light speed or slower as they propagate, dampening as they go, getting smaller and smaller over distance.  This is why they can’t find them, something would have to happen like this NEAR you to ever be observed.

Working backwards

I wanted to work towards defining the PROBABILITY of a Super Wave in this section.  To do that we have started with some known facts at the Center of the Galaxy and worked outward, and now I will postulate a bit of information from our perspective backwards using the proposed gravity waves that may be preceding this event.

This working backwards approach is only meaningful if we accept that there is something manifesting here already, or at least nearby, that has somehow preceded the actual light of the event (and the event itself) by traveling faster than the speed of light for at least part of its journey.  Since we are talking about an arrival date 1 year from now, then this preceding wave is 1 light year ahead of the actual wave and would therefore be somehow evident today.

If you do not accept that premise, and there is no agreed to science that says you should, please continue reading as though this were only an abstract mental exercise and keep an open mind.

First, the numbers we are talking about are HUGE, trillions and trillions, so making them smaller lets us deal with them more easily.  We will use AU measurements.

1 Astronomical Unit (AU) = approx. 93 millions miles The distance of the Earth to the Sun.

Light travels: approx. 6 trillion miles in one year.  We could also say this number is 63,203 AU

We need to work backwards from some FUTURE date (prediction) to current time information. i.e. if the Super Wave were to arrive say December 21, 2012, where would it have to be today? (say December 21, 2011 to make things easy).

Lets look at a map of our neighbourhood.

This diagram gives us some idea of scale of our VERY local area of the Galaxy.

Given our timeframes, that would put the wave at somewhere between 104 AU to  105 AU distant in the above scale diagram.

104 AU  = approx. 10,000 AU and 105 AU = approx. 100,000 AU, and as stated above, 1 Light year is 63, 203 AU.   Please note that the scale above is LOGRITHMIC and not LINEAR.  Each marker is actually 10 times larger than the one that precedes it.  This type of scale just makes it easier to visualize.

As stated earlier, based on previous observations, we MAY be able to say that the MAIN gravimetric wave precedes this wave by about 44 hours.  This is 318 AU and on this scale and at its current position on this scale it is meaningless.  However, move forward in time when the gravimetric wave hit the Heliopause.  That is 102 AU distant from us (100 AU or about .58 light days away).  So, whatever we SEE (important) happening at the Heliopause is in facat a half a day earlier in the past.

At this scale there is still NO WAY to identify any precursors or predictors that this is (has) going to occur other than the extrapolations put forth in part 1-5.  But what if Dr. LaViolette’s statement that the wave can be 1000 times the speed of light at inception were true?  Perhaps, there are many preceding gravimetric waves (as discussed above) created.  Each some fraction of a light year in front of the main wave?  Let me be clear:  There is no science or observation that supports this, none.  We are way out on a limb.  This is PURE speculation used to further this exercise!  Understand that going forward and this should be fun!

Ok, if you believe we are ALREADY feeling the effects of these gravimetric wave(s) this is what would be happening:

  • You should be able to detect  Gravitational Waves or Gravitational anomalies that are happening NOW.  (We do not because we don’t have the instrumentation to do so, see below)
  • We would be seeing increasing seismic activity as each ripple passed us by.   What do you know, we are.  (all data directly from USGS.GOV)
    • They have generally been increasing (greater than magnitude 6.0).
      119 in 1980 to 205 in 2011, really starting in intensify in 1992
    • quakes by year
    • Or by just the really, really bad ones that kill people on a large scale
      Greater than 8.  Statistically significantly different after 1994.

    • Or just the bad ones you don’t want to be anywhere near
      Greater then 7 but less than 8.  Starting in about 1990, things got worse, but have been really bad lately.  Just a note:  That dip at 2007, that is because all the major earthquakes in that year were 8 or more.

      showing that since 1990 we have had an elevated number of earthquakes both in maximums and average with 2010 particularly bad, but 2011 was no picnic.  2012 has already started shaky.

  • We would be seeing this increase on all planets in the Solar System.  They should be relatively timed to equivalent to activity on earth.
  • We should see some sort of interaction/activity on the Sun (outside of normal cyclic activity).
    • I have no proof of this, and all current information shows the Sun following normal cyclical behaviour, although the current period of sun spot activity is predicted to be very intense.   Other than the weird comet stuff like comet LoveJoy that did not burn up and how it affected the corona (an actual impossibility, but there it is).  That again, is yet another story.
  • We should be able to see something interacting at the boundary of the Solar System (the Heliopause (see diagram above).  What do you know, we have 4 spacecraft out there specifically for this purpose: Voyager 1, Voyager 2, IBEX, and Cassini.

What the ever loving heck is happening at the edge of the Solar System !

Well it turns out, A LOT!  First, we must start with some basic facts.  What science told us our Solar system was like and what it turns out to be are completely different.  This is a very, very recent y discovery you may not be aware of.  Especially if you get your news from Fox.

Some terms before we get started:

Interstellar/Intergalactic Medium. This is the general term used to describe what you grew up with knowing as SPACE. Actually, there are two types of SPACE (bet you did not know that!).  The UNIVERSE has about 0.5 atoms/cubic centimetre anywhere you look at that seems “empty”.

 

Local Interstellar Medium (LISM).    The first type of space is the space found within our Heliosphere.  The protective bubble that exists around our Solar System.  It has gas and dust and a thing called the ‘solar wind’ and it is not empty at all.  On average, the solar wind is blowing out in all directions at about 250,000 to 1 million miles per hour and has a density of about 1 atom / cubic centimetre.  This makes our space TWICE as dense as ‘empty’ space.

Besides that, protons, neutrons and other particles of MASS pop, into and out of, existence everywhere, all the time even in space and right next to you as you read this (yet another story, yet proven to be true).  There is no ‘vacuum’.  Everything outside of this bubble, is the LISM.

So what is outside our safe little bubble?  Well, there are two things in our general area as shown in the diagram above.

Local Fluff or Local Intersteller Cloud.  This is the local gas cloud that we are traveling thru.  It is 6,000 degrees (temp of the surface of the Sun).  It has a very LOW density of 0.1 atoms / cubic centimetre.   Please note this little bit of weirdness:  It is FIVE TIMES less dense than ‘’empty” space.  Also, it should not be there.  It is a physical structure, less dense then the space around it.  It should dissipate into nothing and yet it does not!  This is because it is actually a gigantic magnetic field!

Local Bubble.  This is another gas cloud that the Local Fluff is in.  This one is 1,000,000 degrees.  It has an even LOWER density than either the Fluff or empty space.  it is TEN TIMES less dense at  0.05 atoms / cubic centimetre.  This thing is 300 light years across and comes from our friends in the Pleiades.

That means that we are in a ‘dense’ magnetic bubble, that is moving thru a HOT low density magnetic cloud, that is in an even HOTTER and even lower density magnetic cloud as we move thru the local area of the Galaxy.

Well we should probably know what our boundary looks like don’t you think?  So did some other people and we have 3 specific spacecraft to do just this: Voyager 1, Voyager 2, and IBEX.

If we want to see an earlier warnings, these are guys that will give it to us!


IBEX

Interstellar Boundary Explorer – Launched 2008 – reports every 6 months

This little tin can was sent up to look for ENA.  This is Energetic Neutral Atoms.  This is any atom that does not have a charge and is moving fast.  This means that it can pass thru the Sun’s Magnetic Shield and would represent something that has entered our bubble from the outside.

They expected to see LOTS of ENA at the front end, very week at the tail end.  Expectations were that as we pushed thru the local fluff, these atoms would enter as we essentially ran over them. This is from the mission proposal powerpoint!

What they got instead:  A RIBBON on the edge of the solar system.

This is hard to visualize from this circular picture, but that ribbon actually represents the LINE of the Galactic plane as it intersects our protective bubble. (as seen from inside the bubble using projection).  So in reality that ribbon you see is actually a straight line.  This means that these atoms are coming at us from the direction of the Galactic Center and not from the from fluff we are running over.  Mystified by this, they backed it up with the only other satellite we had capable of seeing ENA and this was Cassini out at Saturn.  And sure enough, it sees it too.

Now another mysterious feature of the ENA being shown here is that they appear to be coming from far away.  At LEAST 200 AU (1.5 light days).  That means that they are being created by something out there in that direction. (Center of the Galaxy).

Here is a diagram showing relative position and direction. The red arrow is the NOSE or where the bow shock would be as we plod into the fluff.  The angled ribbon is exactly on the Galactic Plane, 90 degrees to our direction of travel and most energetic part is dead center pointed right at Sag A*.  Voyager 1 & 2 are above and below heading outwards.

It changed the view of the heliosphere from this;

Up until IBEX, science saw the solar system like the diagram above.  Moving thru space with the solar wind pushing things out and leaving a tail of dust/gas/atoms in our wake like a big comet.

What they now think:

The solar system (Heilopause) is actually a giant ball of magnetism, that has nothing really to do with solar wind at all.  Does not sound like much until you THINK about it.  In the previous model, we are actually losing mass over time as it is just spewed out into space and left it in our trail of pollution as it were.  But that is not the case in this picture.  The only atoms that will escape are those that have no CHARGE.  Almost ALL emissions from our Sun are charged (ions).   We retain all of our Sun’s matter, forever.  What?  We are a closed system?  YEP!! Nothing leaves but light and non-charged atoms (like chunks of rock and stuff).

So the original theory that a ‘wind’ comprised of 1 atom/cc would interact with space at a density of .1 atoms/cc and hold it at bay BY COLLISIONS (can’t be gravity or magnetism because atoms are too small!)  proved to be incorrect.  Imagine that. Who would have thought.

So the response from ‘Science’ to explain the ribbon is that it is a ‘reflection’.  This is because they CANNOT have this coming from an external source.  It would be too mind blowing, that is how big this is.  What they say is happening, now no laughing till I am finished is:

First these particles lose their charge and fly out of the heliosphere. At some distance they charge again and start “orbiting” a field line of the local interstellar magnetic field, where they get “recycled” by losing their charge again.  January 12, 2010.

This miracle says that the charged particles emitted by the Sun (in all directions mind you),  losing their charge before hitting the wall (as only non-charged particles can penetrate so they have to pick up an electron somewhere), being captured somewhere out in the fluff magnetism (by gaining a charge again, by now somehow losing this electron), and only those aligned with the Galactic plane, then losing that charge (again by somehow capturing yet another electron, from somewhere) and then only when pointed directly back at the sun, escaping the magnetism and then penetrating back thru the heliosphere as an ENA.  And bob’s your uncle.  No data supports this theory and any movement or changes in the ribbon would completely invalidate this claim.  If you believe this theory then you still get presents from Santa.

Another possibility is that these atoms are being ejected by some interaction between the Local Fluff and the Local Bubble boundary interaction.  This is indeed possible but this is MUCH farther away than 200 AU and no explanation for the specific location to the ribbon.

Or, maybe a gravity wave is attaching electrons to captured charged atoms in the bubble and/or fluff as it moves thru them (along the plane) and carries these atoms along with it until it hits our shell and are visible as ENA as the gravity wave moves thru the shell.  Nah, can’t be that.

Well all we need to do is wait for the next couple of updates, right?  Well after the initial 2 releases of information, the IBEX team has kind of gone silent.  The last update was September 30, 2010, over a year ago.  They have also modified it’s orbit to provide data every MONTH instead of every 6 months.  They are getting lots of info from this guy but not releasing much.

They did give us this in the last update:

The animation shows that the ribbon has indeed changed.  It is still there, but the MOTION of the ribbon looks like an unwinding spiral!!

“To this day the science team can’t agree on exactly what causes the knot or the ribbon, but by comparing different sky maps we find the surprising result that the region is changing over relatively short time periods. Now we have to figure out why.”   September 30, 2010

So much for reflection and I don’t think it helps boundary interaction either!  I think it looks like ripples from the leading edge of a rolling wave.  A spilling wave to those who surf, not a Sine wave.


What about Voyager 1 and 2?

Now here is a really, really interesting ramification of this discovery.  The SIZE of our protective bubble changes based on the outside pressure (again, nothing at all to do with the Solar Wind pressure itself).  In other words, it can get bigger and smaller depending on what is happening out there.  In fact, this outer bubble can and has been compressed all the way into Earth’s orbit in ancient history!!

Another canary type item is this Ribbon explanation:

Another possible mechanism for the production of the ribbon outside the HP involves the compression of the outer heliosheath plasma as the ISMF drapes around the HP. Compression increases the field strength, density, and perpendicular velocity of the ions (conservation of the first adiabatic invariant, μ) such that more of the ENAs created when these ions charge exchange are directed radially inward on lines of sight transverse to the draped field. These ENAs come from suprathermal LISM protons as well as secondary ENAs. Small-scale compressions might explain ribbon fine structure . These authors conclude that compression of the outer heliosheath plasma cannot be the primary mechanism responsible for the ribbon.

Voyager 1 hit termination shock on December 18, 2004 at 94 AU.  Now 120 AU from the Sun.   It is believed that it will leave the Solar System ‘at any time’.  This was not predicted to happen until 2015.  Since this probe is traveling at 3.6 AU / year, this would make the edge 12 AU closer than anticipated.

Voyager 2 hit termination shock on August 30, 2007 at 84 AU.  Now  98 AU from the Sun.  It is travelling at 3.2 AU/ year.

Which means the bubble is getting smaller (10 AU in 3 years), which means an increase of magnetic pressure within the Fluff, which some say could be contributing to the ribbon itself (see link above).

What could increase the magnetism in the Fluff ? Well a magnetic wave moving thru it at the speed of light might do it!

The outer limit of the bubble is not known, but my prediction is that when Voyager 1 hits it, it will be destroyed.

This is our canary.  Science can offer no more.  We don’t have any other technology that will help.

 


What are the odds that something is really happening ?

How probable is it that such a wave will be created? Lets do some ballpark estimates!

First, what is the probability of ‘something’ falling into the black hole? 0 – 100 % ANSWER: 100%

Will this interaction create an explosion? 0 – 100% ANSWER: 50-50. We will know more as the cloud gets closer. If it gets brighter, odds go up since this indicates more matter being affected.

If an explosion occurs, will it be strong enough to reach us way out here? 0 – 100 % ANSWER 100%

If it can reach out this far, will it hit us? 0 – 100% ANSWER (my best guess would by 10%). This would be because we are a tiny dot in a vast ocean. The problem is, everybody in this ocean lives on the same plane, the galactic plane. Exactly where the wave will be. Sucks to be us. Depends on the wave size really and synchronicity.

What are the chances that we will see the wave (if any) if it does not hit us? ANSWER 100%

If it can be shown using information from the past that this is a normal occurrence within our and other galaxies, then the probability actually goes up.

Did star cluster death rays zap Earth?

The monster at the center of our Galaxy is about to get fed. Recent observations by the Very Large Telescopes indicate that a cloud of gas will venture too close to the supermassive black hole at the Galactic center. The gas cloud is being disrupted, stretched out, heated up, and some of it is expected to fall into the black hole over the next two years.

 

If you have read parts 1-4 and are still with me, thank you.  Tough stuff to assimilate.  Humans do not like to accept or believe anything that does not fit their normal everyday bubble that they live in.  I am not trying to scare anyone.  I am just trying to write down a logical thread of evidence and scientific theory that should apply, to the best of my knowledge, to a given set of circumstance.  This circumstance is that a proto-Solar System  is plunging towards the center of the Galaxy black hole.  This fact was discovered first on December 14, 2011 (see Part 1) and then updated December 20, 2011 (See part 2).   If you see something I have missed or overstated, let me know.  Be nice!

 

Short recap. We have a large quantity of matter (solar system) falling into/towards a black hole.  As part of this process, photoevaporation begins to occur within the gas/dust cloud that encompasses this proto-solar system.   By some yet unknown process, X-Rays and Gamma Rays are emitted from both Polar regions of the black hole.    All of this will occur between now and mid 2013.   This is an undeniable fact.  Get your head around that before continuing as this is the basis for all that follows.

 

All of the above are already observable and reported facts.   So far, so good.  Bad things are happening at Sag A* and more will happen at Sag A* because the ONE thing we can be sure of is that saying nothing special will take place is FALSE.  However,  from our point of view the bad things are not pointed in our general direction.   The fact that we already can SEE the polar emissions (since November 2010), means that some material has been and is being absorbed into the black hole already or that these are just permanent features of our particular black hole.

 

This all actually occurred 26,000 years ago.  This too is a fact.  it has taken the light of this event 26,000 years to get here because we are 26,000 light years distant from this event.   This means that we have no means of seeing or detecting any effects of this event because from our relativistic point of view, it has not happened yet.   We can see what happened today – (26,000 yrs) but not Dec 21, 2012 – (26,000 yrs) as an example, even though both dates are in our distant past.    If your galactic location was somewhere other than earth and closer to the galactic center (say 13,000 light years closer), this would all be both ancient history and interesting future events.   From this relativistic position:  This event occurred 13,000 years ago in the local history of our theoretical new position and it has been 13,000 years since the event.  From our actual , real-life perspective, at this point in time we see that nothing has occurred!

Lets make up some theoretical perspectives to try and make this clearer:

From the perspective of an observer 13,000 light years closer:   The explosion occurred 13,000 years ago.  They saw the same cloud we are now seeing, going into the black hole.  The event caused the spectacular  brightening of Sag A*  followed quickly by extremely bright jets, or rays, blasting out of either pole.   These would not last long, seconds really, but what would remain would be the radiation fields created by these emissions.  Next came the shock wave.  Traveling slightly slower than the speed of light, it followed like the crack of thunder following a lightning bolt and almost as fast it was gone.   It has been 13,000 years since this catastrophe happened from their point of reference.  They can still see the ring in the night sky as it races outward throughout the Galactic plane towards more and more star systems.

From our current observation point.   We are where they were 13,000 + 1 year ago.  From our perspective, nothing has happened at the black hole and their star system (if we knew where it was) would seem totally unaffected.   When the light of this PAST event reaches us,  it will look like the entire Galaxy has been affected all at once!   We would see the same brightening and rays at Sag A* that they did.  What we will also see is the effect of the wave on every solar system between us and the center of the Galaxy.    We will not SEE the wave (it is following the light, slightly slower) at that time, just its EFFECTS (very important!).    We may see stars brighten or dim,  super nova, whatever, I don’t know.  But any effect that may occur will be seen by us as though it is is all occurring at once and then we too would see the ring for centuries as it continued on towards the edge of the Galaxy.

Why go down the above little mind trip? Just keep the above scenario in mind as I now go into the point of this post: A proposed expanding shock wave, or super wave if you will, created by this event and that could be propagating throughout the Galaxy as we speak.


The case for the existence of a Super Wave

So, what I am saying is that this potential SUPER WAVE is what we need to really be aware of and/or concerned about.  It is something that we can not see in advance, but we may be able to predict.   This is why you hear many counter arguments to any SUPER WAVE theories.  They claim that they must be false because  you can’t know the future.   This is relatively true, unless you can travel faster than the speed of light, there is NO WAY to know if this scenario has ANY real credence.   But, fortunately, we are not all farm animals and some cognitive thought process may help us deduce the PROBABILITY of such a wave given our situational facts.

Super waves do exist in nature.  They can be seen in other galaxies.

What we don’t know is if they exist in OUR Galaxy, in our lifetime.  But we can at least be open to looking of clues.

 


What exactly is a Super Wave?

Fact 1:

We KNOW that material falling into a black hole not radiated away (poles)  takes the form of matter or energy moving outward at the speed of light.

Fact 2:

We KNOW that material falling into a black hole will create relativistic shock wave that then propagates forward into interstellar space.

Fact 3:

We KNOW that the shock wave will contain extremely energetic electrons that are accelerated by strong local magnetic fields and radiate as synchrotron emission across most the electromagnetic spectrum.

Doesn’t sound that bad really.  A rolling line of extreme magnetism, moving at the speed of light, containing extremely powerful electromagnetic particles and beams.  Saw one last week, it was nothing to write home about.

Important terms used in our fact definitions:

The facts stated above are from the standard cosmology theories/observations in place today.  There are two terms used that must be understood.

relativistic

This refers to General Relativity.  Because this wave is moving at or near the speed of light, the matter and energy contained within it behave according to the rules of Special Relativity.  In other words, weird.

Things are not the same at the speed of light.  Normally, only light goes that fast.  When matter/energy is moving that fast, everything changes!  E=mc2 man, look it up!   That is why they give this wave this term.  It will not be normal ‘cosmic rays’ or ‘solar winds’ or any other type of interstellar medium type particles you may be aware of.   It will have some apparent mass (more than it started with).  It will have extreme magnetism.  It will give off light (ultra-violet).  It will emit X-rays.  It will emit Gamma Rays.  It appears to only move small bits of matter and leaves the big stuff alone.

Any MASS in the wave will be multiplied by the speed of light squared because of the energy used to accelerate it to this velocity.   That is a big number so multiplying anything by it is significant.

If you can ‘see’ it, it will be in the Ultraviolet spectrum as this phenomena produces radiation spectrum of Ultraviolet to Gamma Rays.

Synchrotron radiation is a broadband radio wave emission that is produced when cosmic ray electrons spiral around magnetic field lines perpendicular to the field line direction. If these magnetic field lines are oriented transverse to our line of sight, the electron orbits will be seen edge-on and their synchrotron radio emission will be seen as linearly polarized. On the other hand, if these field lines point towards us so that we look down their field axis, the orbiting electrons would now be observed circling in the plane of the sky, and their radio emission would be seen by us as being circularly polarized.

Previously, astronomers had assumed that cosmic ray electrons radiating out from the core would be trapped by nearby magnetic field lines oriented cross-wise to the particles’ outward trajectories, thereby impeding their escape. LaViolette’s model predicted that these fields are instead oriented primarily parallel to the particle flight trajectories and radial with respect to the Galactic core. He maintained that these electrons escape from the core at close to the speed of light, spiraling outward along radial trajectories. Due to their high speed flight, these particles would beam their synchrotron radiation forward, confined to a very narrow angle cone.

What this is saying, is that because of the relativistic nature of the wave itself, the wave forms in such a way as to escape the magnetic field of the black hole and that the energy/particles generated by material in the wave will project forward out from the leading edge and not in all directions as one would see from a stationary source.  This is important to the following discussions.

A Superluminal Gravity Wave?

What the?

Experiments carried out by Eugene Podkletnov show that a shock front outburst produces a longitudinal gravitational wave that travels forward with the burst.  He has found that this gravity wave pulse has a speed in excess of 64 times the speed of light (personal communication).  Also Guy Obolensky has produced spark discharge electric potential shock fronts and observed them to propagate forward at speeds as high as 10 times the speed of light.  Observations suggest that the gravity wave from an expanding stellar explosion will decrease its superluminal speed and eventually approach the speed of light as the shock front expands.  But meanwhile, the gravity wave will have obtained a headstart over the electromagnetic wave radiation component traveling in its wake (light waves, gamma rays, etc.).  So one would expect that the gravity wave from such an outburst (and its resultant earthquake activity) would precede the gamma ray burst component.

What this experimentation says is that at the TIME of the initial explosion that a Gravity Wave is created.  Initially traveling at some multiple of light speed (this should have made headlines if true),  it eventually slows to the speed of light as it expands.   Very interesting.  Maybe we could use this information.


Scared of a Super Wave?  I am not scared, what is there to scared of?  Really, I am not that scared.

Ok, so what if such a wave did occur.  What could it do really.   Again, PAUL A. LaVIOLETTE Phd., has some speculation on the subject:

Upon reaching our Solar System a superwave could cause a variety of effects. It could inject cosmic dust into the planetary environs, thereby altering the Earth’s climate. Also the electromagnetic wave radiation it carried might at times have the character of an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) similar to that generated by the aerial detonation of a nuclear device. It could create radio and television interference and might knock out satellite telephone conversations by permanently damaging satellite equipment. High-voltage surges picked up on telephone wires and power lines could damage electrical equipment including home electrical and telephone appliances that happened to be plugged into these networks. There could also be dangers to airplanes which happened to be flying during such an episode.

So your toaster is done for.   This is similar to what a large CME would do as well.   Would not be fun, but it won’t kill your dog either.

Then there may be cause to be concerned about the superwave cosmic rays themselves. If the initial outburst were sufficiently intense, this particle radiation could constitute a substantial health hazard.

Alas, there is even more as we have not talked about the Gravitational Wave the precedes this thing (theoretically).


This could NOT be the first super wave in 4.5 billion years.  Where is historical proof?

Funny you should ask.  You did ask right?  You should have if you did not.  Why? because if this is normal, natural phenomenon of black holes and our black hole has been there since, well the birth of our galaxy, then this would not be it’s first rodeo.

I will include some predications and quotes from Dr. LaViolette from the above web site to further this discussion.

This guy got his doctorate based on the thesis of a SuperWave in 1983 (nearly 30 years ago for the math impaired).  This is way, way before a lot of information about black holes existed,  or any 2012 talk (he is not a late comer),  or even the discovery of the existence of the discovery of December 14, 2011 of the material at Sag A*

   In his 1983 Ph.D. dissertation, Paul LaViolette called attention to terrestrial dangers of Galactic core explosions, pointing out that the arrival of the cosmic ray superwave they produced would be signaled by a high intensity gamma ray burst which would also generate EMP effects (e.g., see Page 3).   He also noted that a strong gravity wave might be expected to travel forward at the forefront of this superwave and might be the first indication of a superwave’s arrival.  He pointed out that such gravity waves could induce substantial tidal forces on the Earth during their passage which could induce earthquakes and cause polar axis torquing effects.

Anyone who has done a dissertation (I have not), or knows about the requirements for giving one knows the rigor with which they are examined.  You entire career is dependent on it.   You need proof of any claims you make.  Let’s start there.

The Earth’s polar ice sheets preserve a record of past superwave episodes. This can be seen by analyzing the levels of beryllium-10 along the length of the polar ice core record. This beryllium isotope is a good indicator of superwave intensity since it is produced in the Earth’s atmosphere through cosmic ray bombardment. The polar record shows several peaks of cosmic ray activity, the most recent of which occurred about 12 – 16 thousand years ago. Additional evidence indicating that our Solar System may periodically be impacted by a forceful cosmic ray wind comes from my discovery that ice age polar ice on some occasions contains very high concentrations of cosmic dust, several orders of magnitude greater than are found in snow or ice from the present interglacial. Prior to this discovery, I had predicted that passing superwaves would have propelled dust into the Solar System and that these dust incursions may have been a principal cause of the recurring sequence of ice ages. This is historically a key discovery because it is the first time that anyone had measured cosmic dust levels for the ice age period.

Just to make a special note here.  He is postulating a theory to account for the discovery of materials within ice cores that indicate periods of increased Cosmic ray activity in our past history.   He postulates that this is from a SuperWave, there may be other explanations.

He goes on to address this:

 Cosmic Ray Bombardment – prevailing concept (1980 – 83): At the time of this prediction, astronomers believed that the background cosmic ray flux has remained constant for millions of years, that intense cosmic ray bombardments occur very infrequently, perhaps every 30 million years, primarily as a result of nearby supernova explosions.

His prediction was verified:

Verification (1987): Glaciologists discovered beryllium-10 isotope peaks in ice age polar ice. These indicated that the cosmic ray flux on the Earth became very high on several occasions during the last ice age, confirming Dr. LaViolette’s theory that Galactic superwaves have repeatedly passed through our solar system in geologically recent times.

 

I have talked about Gamma rays in part 4.   This was the prevailing ‘knowledge’ you may have been taught.  Until very recently, they actually had NO IDEA where they came from.

Gamma Ray Bursts – prevailing concept (1983): During the early 1970′s, astronomers discovered the Earth is sporadically bombarded by gamma ray bursts. At the time of this prediction, they incorrectly assumed that gamma ray bursts were medium energy events originating from local sources within our Galaxy. They did not regard them as a significant social threat.

Dr. LaViolette predicted that this may not be true, that in fact, Gamma ray events within our Galaxy are more likely caused at the core.

Prediction No. 13 (1983): In his dissertation, LaViolette proposed that a superwave produced by an explosion of our Galaxy’s core could be immediately preceded by a very strong gamma ray pulse, 10,000 times stronger than what could come from a supernova explosion.

Well, eventually they did observe a Gamma Ray source:

Verification (1997): In December 1997, astronomers for the first time pinpointed the source of a gamma ray burst and found that it originated from a galaxy lying billions of light years away. This led them to conclude that these are mostly extragalactic events having total energies millions of times greater than they had previously supposed, thereby confirming LaViolette’s earlier proposal of the existence of high intensity gamma ray bursts. If this particular outburst had originated from our Galactic center, it would have delivered 100,000 times the lethal dose to all exposed Earth life forms.

And that these sources were OTHER Galaxies and not our own.  In fact, no known sources of Gamma ray radiation were thought to exist within our own Galaxy (read part 4).  Apparently, these events are extragalactic.  So much for thinking that it would dissipate by the time it reaches us.

I really have no idea what the following quote really means, but looks interesting and I will follow up on it some time.

Verification (2008): The prediction with respect to the superluminal speed of gravity potential component of such waves was verified qualitatively. Previously, Dr. Podkletnov had told LaViolette that he and Dr. Modanese had measured the speed of the pulses to be between 63 and 64 times the speed of light. In January of 2008, LaViolette asked Podkletnov whether the concrete smashing pulses produced by the steeper electric field gradients traveled much faster than the pendulum deflecting pulses. Podkletnov concurred and said that they had determined that these stronger pulses traveled at least several thousand times the speed of light.


Here is the weird part,  something similar has already happened in your lifetime.  Read on.

Here is the first example:  August 27, 1988

Verification (1998): Some months later, in August 27, 1998, a 5 minute long gamma ray pulse arrived from a Galactic source located 20,000 light years away in the constellation of Aquila. The event was strong enough to ionize the upper atmosphere and seriously disrupt satellites and spacecraft. It triggered a defensive instrument shutdown on at least two spacecraft. Astronomers acknowledged that this marked the first time they became aware that energetic outbursts from distant astronomical sources could affect the Earth’s physical environment. These events reaffirmed the validity of warnings LaViolette made 9 years earlier about the potential hazards of such gamma ray bursts.

And this should clinch it.  This event occurred December 26, 2004

   On December 26, 2004 a magnitude 9.3 earthquake occurred in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Sumatra in Malaysia.  It caused a powerful tsunami which devastated coastal regions of many countries leaving over 240,000 people either dead or missing.  It was the worst tsunami to affect this area since the 1883 explosion of Krakatao.  The earthquake that produced it was so strong that it exceeded by a factor of 10 the next most powerful earthquake to occur anywhere in the past 25 years.

Indonesian 9.3 Richter earthquake:
December 26, 2004 at 00 hours 58 minutes (Universal Time)

It is then with some alarm that we learn that just 44.6 hours later gamma ray telescopes orbiting the Earth picked up the arrival of the brightest gamma ray burst ever recorded!

Gamma ray burst arrival:
December 27, 2004 at 21 hours 36 minutes (Universal Time)

this gamma ray blast was 100 times more intense than any burst that had been previously recorded, equalling the brightness of the full Moon, but radiating most of its energy at gamma ray wavelengths.  Gamma ray counts spiked to a maximum in 1.5 seconds and then declined over a 5 minute period with 7.57 second pulsations.  The blast temporarily changed the shape the Earth’s ionosphere, distorting the transmission of long-wavelength radio signals.  See stories on Space.com, BBC News,NY TImes.

Interesting, but no causality is presented.  In other words, they have not proved cause and effect.

Lets continue.

    It was determined that the burst originated from the soft gamma ray repeater star, SGR 1806-20, a neutron star 20 kilometers in diameter which rotates once every 7.5 seconds, matching the GRB pulsation period.  SGR 1806-20 is located about 10 degrees northeast of the Galactic center and about 20,000 to 32,000 light years from us, or about as far away as the Galactic center.  (Originally, it had been thought to be 45,000 light years from us. but new results place it closer.) The outburst released more energy in a tenth of a second than the Sun emits in 100,000 years.  Other gamma ray bursts have been detected whose explosions were intrinsically more powerful than this one at the source of the explosion, but since those explosions originated in other galaxies tens of thousands of times more distant, the bursts were not nearly as bright when they reached our solar system.  What makes the December 27th gamma ray burst unique is that it is the first time that a burst this bright has been observed, one that also happens to originate from within our own Galaxy.

Again this proves conclusively that these types of events can reach us from this distance.  Note:  This was a neutron star only 20 kilometres in diameter, our black hole has a diameter the size of the orbit of Mercury.

     Astronomers have theorized that gamma ray bursts might travel in association with gravity wave bursts.  In the course of their flight through space, gamma rays would be deflected by gravitational fields and would be scattered by dust and cosmic ray particles they encountered, so they would be expected to travel slightly slower than their associated gravity wave burst which would pass through space unimpeded.  After a 45,000 year light-speed journey, a gamma ray burst arrival delay of 44.6 hours would not be unexpected.  It amounts to a delay of just one part in 9 million.  So if the gravity wave travelled at the speed of light (c), the gamma ray burst would have averaged a speed of 0.99999989 c, just 0.11 millionths slower.  There is also the possibility that at the beginning of its journey the gravity wave may have had a superluminal speed; see textbox below.

 

The article goes on the try and add weight to the correlation between the two events.  Still no real proof. What is interesting here is :

1. It was not 45,000 light years, it was 20,000.  The 45,000 number was the original estimate.

2. We are 26,000 light years from the core.  Roughly equivalent for the next extrapolation.

At that distance, the time gap between the gravimetric wave and the light/super wave that follows will be about 44 hours, give or take since it is 0.99999989 c.  That is pretty specific information to know if this causality is true.

 

So, if one were inclined to believe that such waves exist, they exist in our Galaxy, that we know what triggers them, and that they might just happen in your short lifespan, and you want to try and be prepared based on this information, this is what you would do:

  • Watch for increasing signs (light) of activity at Sag A*.  Should be public, even on Fox.
  • Watch for a LARGE seismic event or events, AFTER the increased signs of activity.
  • You then have approximately 44 hours to put your poop in pile.
